There are three parts in BJJ classes: Warmup, technique, and rolling.
In the warmup period, kids learn the basic movements and prepare to do physical activity. After, they will learn new techniques from the instructor. During this time, the instructor will demonstrate a group of techniques. Then the class gets into groups to drill and practice the techniques.
The class finishes with rolling, where kids try out their new techniques in live sparring matches with another kid in class. They're paired with kids of similar size, age, and skill level.
Kids can start Jiu-Jitsu classes as young as four years old. Most Jiu-Jitsu schools have a beginner program that teaches kids the basic skills without the pressure of tournaments, points, or belts. Those in BJJ classes should try to attend at least 2-3 times. The classes are usually 1-2 hours long.
